What happened

During a flight departing from Prague-Ruzyne Airport, an aircraft experienced a loss of power in one of its engines while ascending. The flight was scheduled to travel from Prague to Košice, with a planned stopover in Piešťany. Following the engine malfunction, the aircraft became uncontrollable and descended into an open field situated approximately 7 km southwest of the airport.

The accident resulted in 11 fatalities, including three crew members and eight passengers. Additionally, 29 individuals sustained injuries during the impact.

Findings

Investigations determined that the primary cause of the crash was an engine failure, though the specific reason for the mechanical malfunction remained undetermined. Investigators also noted that inadequate crew coordination and a poor response to the emergency situation served as contributing factors to the accident.
