What happened
During a routine local training mission conducted at RAF Llanbedr, an aircraft experienced a loss of directional control following its arrival on the ground. After the wheels touched down on the runway, the plane began to swing and drift from the paved surface.
As the aircraft moved off the runway and entered an adjacent soil field, the impact with the terrain caused the landing gear to be ripped from the airframe. The momentum of the excursion resulted in the left wing being partially severed. Although the two crew members on board escaped without any injuries, the aircraft was determined to be a total loss due to the extent of the structural damage.
Findings
- The aircraft veered off the runway after landing.
- The plane's movement into a soil field caused the undercarriage to fail.
- Structural damage included a partially sheared left wing.
