What happened
The incident involved a twin-engine aircraft operating under the command of the 16th Flying Training School. The crew was conducting a training mission that originated at RAF Newton with a destination of RAF Millom. During the cruise phase, the aircraft encountered cloudy conditions. While navigating through this weather, the airframe collided with the slope of Mt Edale Moor. This location is situated within the Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve, northwest of Edale.
The impact resulted in the destruction of the aircraft. All five individuals on board sustained injuries. The occupants consisted of a pilot and a wireless operator from the crew, along with three passengers who were also military personnel.
