What happened
The incident occurred while the crew was returning to base at RAF Dumfries following a completed supply mission. During the final approach and landing phase, the aircraft touched down significantly further down the runway than intended. Due to this late touchdown point, the airplane was unable to decelerate within the remaining available distance. The airframe subsequently overran the end of the runway, losing its undercarriage in the process before coming to a complete stop a few dozen metres beyond the paved surface.
All four members of the crew from the 10th OAFU escaped the wreckage unhurt. Despite the survival of the personnel, the structural damage sustained by the aircraft was severe enough to render it damaged beyond repair.
