What happened
The aircraft was conducting a gunnery exercise departing from RAF Mona. While navigating along the coastline, the pilot attempted to pass through a narrow gap between the shoreline and a large industrial hopper associated with the Granite Quarry on the slopes of Gyrn Ddu. This facility utilized a transporter cable system to link the quarry to a jetty, supporting vehicle transport from mine workings located above the village.
During this maneuver, the Anson collided with the overhead cable. The impact caused the aircraft to lose control immediately. It subsequently crashed into the sea approximately 100 yards offshore. The accident resulted in three fatalities and left three other crew members injured.
