What happened
The incident occurred during the return leg of a maritime patrol mission to RAF Tangmere. The twin-engine aircraft touched down significantly further down the runway than intended. Due to this extended landing distance, the airplane failed to stop before the end of the available pavement. Consequently, the airframe overran the runway and came to rest off the surface.
All four members of the crew from the 217th Squadron managed to evacuate the aircraft safely. Despite the successful evacuation, the structural damage sustained during the overrun rendered the aircraft beyond repair.
