What happened
On the morning of the accident, a twin-engine aircraft departed from San Cristóbal de Las Casas at approximately 09:20 local time, bound for Yajalón. During the approach phase to Yajalón Airport, this aircraft entered into a collision with another Anson aircraft, identified by registration XB-YUB. The second aircraft was arriving from Tuxtla Gutiérrez and was carrying two crew members along with nine passengers.
Immediately following the impact, both planes descended rapidly into a nearby prairie. The crash resulted in 17 fatalities, accounting for all individuals on board both aircraft.
