During this phase of the flight, the aircraft encountered severe weather characterized by heavy rainfall. Due to the deteriorating conditions, air traffic control authorized the pilot to divert the flight to Mataram-Selaparang Airport.

While operating in conditions of limited visibility, the aircraft collided with the northern slope of Mount Rinjani. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were 19 fatalities among the occupants of the flight.
