What happened
A charter operation traveling from Singapore toward Pekanbaru ended in a fatal accident during the landing phase. The aircraft was transporting a total of 17 people, consisting of four crew members and 13 employees from the Hudbay Oil Company.
As the flight was performing its final approach to the destination, the right engine experienced a failure. This loss of power caused the aircraft to descend prematurely, resulting in a crash approximately 2 km before reaching the runway threshold. The impact led to 14 fatalities and left three passengers with serious injuries.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was the failure of the right engine while the aircraft was on final approach. The specific underlying reason for this mechanical failure remains undetermined.
