What happened
A charter flight departed from Brasilía-Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek Airport at 20:25 local time, bound for São Paulo-Congonhas. The aircraft was carrying a crew of two pilots and one passenger. During the initial takeoff roll, a tire on the main landing gear failed. Despite the burst, the flight crew proceeded with the takeoff and subsequently notified Air Traffic Control of the mechanical issue.
As the aircraft began its descent toward the original destination of São Paulo-Congonhas, the crew identified abnormalities regarding the landing gear's status. After attempting a manual recycling of the gear, the decision was made to divert to São Paulo-Guarulhos Airport to utilize its longer runway for the emergency.
Upon landing at night, the left main landing gear collapsed. This failure caused the aircraft to veer off the runway and come to a stop in a nearby grassy area. There were no fatalities among the three occupants, all of whom evacuated the aircraft without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- A tire failure occurred during the takeoff phase at the departure airport.
- The collapse of the left main landing gear during touchdown led to the runway excursion.
