What happened
Following the touchdown on runway 20L at Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont Airport, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently before the end of the pavement. Given that the runway length is 1,320 metres, the aircraft ran out of available stopping distance and exited the runway area. The movement continued until the aircraft entered Guanabara Bay, where it eventually came to a stop.
During the incident, there were five injuries reported among the occupants. The aircraft sustained damage that was classified as beyond repair. No fatalities were reported in connection with this event.
Findings
- The aircraft was unable to halt within the remaining length of the runway after landing.
- The excursion resulted in the aircraft leaving the airport perimeter and entering the water.
