Royal Air Maroc Flight AT422 Runway Excursion at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (CN-ROR)

Incident Overview and Classification On June 17, 2015, a Royal Air Maroc Boeing 737-800, registration CN-ROR, operating scheduled passenger flight AT422, was involved in a serious incident at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (GMMN). The aircraft departed the runway during a turn to taxiway Mike. It landed on runway 35L at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport at approximately 09:35 UTC in favorable weather conditions. During the turn to taxiway Mike at a ground speed of approximately 35 knots, the aircraft skidded to the left and left the taxiway. The aircraft came to rest on taxiway Mike before the stop point, which was located 150 meters from the runway 35L centerline. ## Damage and Injuries The incident caused damage to the aircraft's nose gear, including the rupture of both nose wheel tires and damage to the left wheel rim. The outer tire of the left main landing gear was torn after passing over a taxiway edge light and curb. The aircraft required towing and was immobilized for repairs. No fatalities or injuries were reported among the crew or passengers. Additional damage included a damaged taxiway edge light on taxiway Mike. ## Investigation and Personnel The investigation was conducted by the BEA based on factual information, operator and airport reports, crew statements, and interviews. The flight crew and cabin crew held the required qualifications and competencies for the flight. The captain was 44 years old with 8,988.58 total flight hours, and the first officer was 28 years old with 2,247.76 total flight hours. The aircraft's nose gear wheels had been replaced on June 8, 2015, and inspections of the nose gear steering mechanism were performed on May 2, 2015. ## Weather and Aerodrome Conditions Weather conditions at the time of the incident were favorable, with good visibility allowing a Category I approach. The METAR reports for the period indicated clear skies (CAVOK) with temperatures ranging from 22 to 27 degrees Celsius. Casablanca Mohammed V Airport is located 30 kilometers south of Casablanca at an elevation of 656 feet (200 meters) and features two parallel runways, 17L/35R and 17R/35L, each 3,720 meters long.
