What happened
During a flight departing from Güvercinlik AFB, the aircraft encountered significant difficulties while climbing through adverse weather. The crew reported experiencing severe vibrations along with issues related to the engines. In response to these complications, the flight was authorized to divert to Ankara-Esenboğa Airport.
However, during the descent or diversion attempt, the aircraft lost altitude and struck a post office parking area located in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara. The impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate. The accident resulted in six fatalities, including all five occupants of the aircraft and one individual on the ground.
Findings
At the time of the accident, environmental conditions were poor, characterized by snowfall and an outside air temperature of -4° C. Visibility was restricted to approximately 1,500 metres. The primary factor contributing to the loss of control was engine problems and severe vibrations experienced during the initial climb phase.
