Incident
A flight arriving from La Ceiba initiated an approach to Palacios Airport. During the final approach, the aircraft was observed to be too high and descending at a rapid rate. The pilot touched down approximately two-thirds of the way down the grassy runway, leaving insufficient distance to stop. The aircraft overran the runway and collided with a building located 65 meters beyond the end of the strip.
All five occupants on board evacuated with minor injuries. The aircraft sustained damage beyond repair.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined the probable cause to be a wrong approach configuration on the part of the pilot, who landed too far down the runway after the aircraft approached at an excessive altitude and speed. The pilot failed to initiate a go-around procedure.
