What happened
During the initial climb phase following departure from Belém-Val-de-Cans Airport, the aircraft experienced a fire in one of its engines. In response to the emergency, the crew initiated an unplanned descent to perform an emergency landing.
The aircraft eventually came to rest in a swampy region located beyond the end of the runway. While the impact resulted in the airframe being damaged beyond repair, there were no fatalities. Both members of the flight crew sustained slight injuries during the incident.
Findings
Investigation into the event determined that the primary factor was an engine fire occurring immediately after takeoff.
