What happened
During the approach phase to Guadalajara-Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Airport, the flight crew identified mechanical issues regarding the aircraft's landing gear. To assess the situation, the pilots conducted a low-altitude pass in front of the control tower. During this maneuver, air traffic control verified that the landing gear had failed to fully extend and lock into position.
Following this confirmation, the captain determined that a wheels-up landing was necessary. The aircraft type (unspecified in source) touched down on runway 2el. Upon contact with the runway, the plane slid for several dozen meters before the movement ceased. While the aircraft sustained significant damage, including the destruction of the left engine by fire, the airframe was deemed a total loss.
Findings
- The primary issue involved the landing gear failing to deploy and lock properly.
- All 116 occupants successfully evacuated the aircraft without any reported injuries.
