What happened
The incident involved a Boeing B-29 with registration 42-93895, which had departed Clovis Airfield for a night training exercise. While cruising at an altitude of 15,000 feet in the vicinity of Weatherford, Texas, the aircraft collided mid-air with a second USAAF Boeing B-29 registered 44-86276. The second aircraft was operating from Alamogordo and carried a crew of nine. Following the impact, both planes entered an uncontrolled dive toward the ground. During this descent, two crew members from the 42-93895 managed to eject and survived the accident. Both aircraft ultimately crashed into a field situated three miles west of Weatherford, where they were completely destroyed. The event resulted in 18 fatalities.
