What happened
During a morning mission intended for firefighting operations over Beotia, an aircraft departed from Volos-Néa Anchialos Airport. While in flight, the crew experienced an engine fire involving the left engine. In response to the emergency, the crew attempted to perform an emergency landing.
During the descent, the aircraft struck a wooded area situated near Dervenochoria. The impact was followed by a significant fire that consumed the airframe. Despite the destruction of the aircraft, both pilots managed to exit the wreckage and sustained only minor injuries.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the crash was a fire in the left engine during the en route phase of the flight.
