What happened
On December 25, 2007, a CL-604 aircraft, registration D-ARWE, operated by JetConnection Businessflight AG, was performing a charter flight from Hannover to Macao via Almaty. After an unscheduled diversion to Almaty due to refueling issues in Astana, the crew prepared for departure from Almaty International Airport.
Prior to departure, the aircraft underwent a two-stage de-icing and anti-icing process using Type 1 and Type 2 fluids to manage snow and mist conditions. Following the completion of these procedures, the crew performed engine start-up and taxiing. During the takeoff roll on runway 05, the aircraft developed an increasing right bank. The right wing tip subsequently contacted the edge of the runway. The aircraft then veered onto the graded airfield, where the right main and nose landing gears struck the ground. The aircraft traveled approximately 190 meters before coming to a halt after striking an airfield fence. A fire broke out during the excursion, which was suppressed by airport emergency services. There were 0 fatalities and 0 injuries reported among the crew and the single passenger on board.
Findings
- The crew utilized an abbreviated checklist during the after-engine start phase that failed to include required checks for the wing anti-ice and cowl anti-ice systems.
- The aircraft developed a right bank during the takeoff roll, leading to the wing strike and subsequent excursion.
