What happened
On the date of the accident, an aircraft departed from Palanquero Air Force Base, destined for Barranquilla with a scheduled stop in Valledupar. While the flight was in the cruise phase, the aircraft encountered adverse weather conditions. During this period, the crew notified Air Traffic Control of an engine failure, shortly before all radio communication with the aircraft ceased.
Following the loss of contact, the aircraft entered an uncontrolled descent. The impact occurred in a field situated approximately 50 kilometers south of Valledupar, near the locality of Agustín Codazzi. The force of the impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft, though no post-crash fire was reported. All 11 crew members on board perished in the accident.
Findings
Investigation details indicate that the aircraft was performing a special mission on behalf of the Colombian Intelligence Forces at the time of the incident. The primary factor leading to the loss of control was an engine failure occurring during flight in poor weather.
