What happened
During the landing phase at Teniente Rodolfo Marsh-Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva Airport, the aircraft encountered runway conditions characterized by snow and ice. Upon making contact with the runway surface, the flight crew lost control of the vehicle. This loss of directional control caused the aircraft to veer away from the active runway and travel down an embankment.
Following the excursion, the aircraft came to a final position at the base of the embankment. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were 11 injuries reported among the occupants, though no fatalities were recorded in this incident.
Findings
- The presence of icy and snowy runway conditions at the time of touchdown contributed to the loss of control during the landing roll.
