What happened
During the final approach to Concepción-Carriel Sur Airport, the flight crew encountered challenging meteorological conditions, including broken cloud layers at 300 metres and an overcast ceiling at 750 metres. While navigating the approach, the crew communicated with Air Traffic Control, noting that they had just passed the inner marker. Shortly thereafter, the aircraft collided with a mountain slope situated approximately 4 km before the threshold of runway 20. The mountain involved in the impact was 435 metres in height. The accident resulted in three fatalities among the crew.
At the time of the collision, weather observations indicated a north wind of 23 knots.
Findings
Investigations into the crash indicate that the aircraft was operating at an insufficient altitude during the final phase of the approach. The specific reasons for the low altitude during the approach remain undetermined.
