What happened
During an approach to Santa Rosa de Yacuma Airport, the flight crew encountered challenging weather conditions characterized by heavy rain and low visibility. In response to these environmental factors, the pilot executed a go-around procedure to safely abort the initial landing attempt.
Shortly after, while attempting a second approach, the aircraft crossed the runway threshold. At this stage, the pilot decided to perform another go-around. During the subsequent maneuver, the pilot attempted a left turn but subsequently lost control of the aircraft type. The plane impacted the ground approximately 500 meters beyond the runway threshold, resulting in a post-crash fire that completely destroyed the airframe. There were six fatalities among the occupants.
Findings
- The accident occurred during a second go-around maneuver.
- Heavy rainfall and degraded visibility were present during the approach phases.
- The loss of control occurred during a left-hand turn following the decision to abort the landing.
