What happened
On December 20, 2007, a Cessna 208B Caravan, registered as N954PA, was conducting a flight from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to West Palm Beach, Florida. While cruising at an altitude of 12,000 feet, the aircraft, which was operated by Agape Flight Inc, experienced a sudden loss of engine power.
Following the engine stoppage, the crew attempted to divert the aircraft toward the closest available airfield. However, the plane was unable to maintain enough glide distance to reach an airport safely. The aircraft subsequently impacted the water approximately 30 nautical miles west-northwest of Chub Cay.
There were two crew members on board during the incident, and both were reported to have sustained no injuries. The wreckage of the aircraft settled in water measuring between eighteen and twenty feet in depth, with the tail section of the plane becoming visible during periods of low tide.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was a sudden engine stoppage during the cruise phase of flight.
