What happened
During a nocturnal positioning flight traveling from Dar es-Salaam, a twin engine airplane lost control while attempting to land at Zanzibar Airport. The aircraft went down in the waters situated near Chenguella Island, crashing just a few hundred meters away from the coastline.
At the time of the accident, there was only one person on board. The pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and was killed in the impact.
Findings
Official investigations into the crash determined that the aircraft experienced an engine failure while on approach to the airport. This loss of power was a direct result of fuel exhaustion during the flight.
