Accident Overview
An aircraft crashed in a field while on final approach to Calgary Airport, resulting in the deaths of both occupants. The accident occurred after the pilot reported an engine failure and subsequently lost flying speed, leading to a stall.
Flight History
Approximately six minutes after departing from Edmonton Airport, the pilot informed air traffic control of an engine failure. Despite the failure, the pilot chose to continue the flight rather than return to Edmonton. Later, when the aircraft could not maintain the prescribed altitude, the pilot decided to divert to Calgary Airport for a safe landing. However, while on final approach, the airplane lost speed, stalled, and crashed in a field.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined the probable cause to be engine failure and the pilot's failure to maintain flying speed.
