What happened
During a local test flight conducted at La Carlota-General Francisco de Miranda AFB in Caracas, an aircraft experienced a significant mechanical failure during its takeoff roll. The incident began when a tire on the right main landing gear burst. This failure caused the right main gear to collapse and become detached from the airframe.
Following the loss of the right gear, the aircraft veered toward the left side of the runway. This lateral movement resulted in the collapse of the left main landing gear as well. The aircraft subsequently came to a stop on its belly, though the nose gear remained in its extended position. There were no injuries reported among the crew members on board.
Findings
- The primary sequence of events was initiated by a burst tire on the right main landing gear.
- The structural failure of the right gear led to a loss of directional control during the takeoff phase.
