What happened
A charter flight, which originated in Oranjestad, Aruba, and included a stop in Barcelona, was conducting a night approach to runway 10 at Charallave. During the initial approach, the captain executed a go-around maneuver for unspecified reasons. During the subsequent second landing attempt, the aircraft touched down approximately 1,000 meters from the end of the 2,000-meter runway.
Due to the long touchdown, the crew was unable to decelerate the aircraft before the end of the paved surface. The aircraft subsequently overran the runway, descended down an embankment, and came to a halt. There were no fatalities among the eight occupants on board, all of whom evacuated the aircraft safely. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The aircraft touched down halfway down the runway during the second approach attempt.
- Insufficient runway remaining prevented the aircraft from stopping before exiting the pavement.
