What happened
The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft departed Bournemouth-Hurn Airport on a local training mission. The pilot encountered an unexpected situation immediately following liftoff, which necessitated an attempt at an emergency landing. During this maneuver, the twin-engine aircraft lost control and crashed into a field in close proximity to the airfield.
The accident resulted in the deaths of two individuals: the pilot and a passenger identified as a representative for De Havilland. Two other passengers, who were employees of BOAC, sustained injuries in the crash.
