What happened
The incident occurred immediately following departure from RAF Millom. The aircraft, identified as a single-engine airplane, encountered a mechanical issue during the initial climb phase. Specifically, the powerplant ceased functioning shortly after liftoff. In response to the loss of thrust, the pilot executed an emergency landing procedure. The aircraft touched down in a controlled manner but resulted in a crash landing scenario due to the lack of engine power.
Findings
The official investigation determined that the primary factor leading to the accident was the engine failure which occurred during the takeoff phase. Despite the severity of the mechanical malfunction and the subsequent unpowered landing, both individuals on board the aircraft were able to evacuate safely. No injuries were reported among the occupants.
