What happened
The incident involved a twin engine airplane operating a mission to transfer personnel between Hatston and Donibristle, located north of Edinburgh. During the en-route phase of this flight, the crew faced deteriorating weather conditions characterized by rain and poor visibility. Unable to maintain safe separation from terrain under these circumstances, the aircraft impacted the slope of Kempstone Hill in the vicinity of Cowie. The collision resulted in the immediate loss of life for all individuals on board.
The six occupants included two crew members assigned to the 782nd Squadron: a pilot and a co-pilot who also served as navigator. Additionally, four passengers were aboard at the time of the accident. These passengers comprised military officers and civilian employees, including representatives from Vickers Armstrong. All six occupants perished in the crash.
