Aircraft ground impact during takeoff at Jaipur-Sanganeer Airport

No fatalities • Jaipur, India • Takeoff (climb)

An aircraft sustained heavy damage after striking the ground during its takeoff roll at Jaipur-Sanganeer Airport, though no injuries were reported.

What happened

During the initial takeoff phase at Jaipur-Sanganeer Airport, the aircraft type began drifting steadily toward the left side of the runway centerline. In an attempt to manage this deviation, the captain initiated rotation earlier than planned. As the plane lifted off the runway, it experienced a significant leftward bank that resulted in the left wing making contact with the ground.

The subsequent impact caused the aircraft to crash into a nearby grassy area. Despite the severity of the impact, all 30 occupants managed to evacuate the wreckage without sustaining any injuries. Following the accident, the airframe was determined to be a total loss due to extensive damage.

Findings

Investigations into the incident revealed that the aircraft was operating in an unsafe condition regarding its weight and balance. The primary factor contributing to the accident was that the aircraft was overloaded, with the total weight exceeding the maximum takeoff weight (MTOW). Additionally, the center of gravity (CofG) was found to be outside of the permitted operational envelope.

Probable cause

The aircraft exceeded its maximum takeoff weight and operated with a center of gravity outside of approved limits.
