What happened
During the final approach to Malmö-Bulltofta Airport, the aircraft was positioned too high on the glide path. Rather than executing a standard go-around procedure, the captain elected to lower the nose and increase engine power to continue the landing. This decision resulted in the aircraft touching down at a significantly higher speed than intended.
Due to the excessive velocity, the crew was unable to bring the airplane to a stop within the remaining runway distance. The aircraft subsequently overran the paved surface and struck an embankment before finally coming to rest. The impact caused the destruction of the airframe. Tragically, one crew member was killed, while four other individuals sustained serious injuries.
Findings
The official investigation concluded that the accident was caused by a wrong approach configuration. This error led to the unstable flight path and the subsequent high-speed landing that made it impossible to stop within the available runway length.
