Multi-engine aircraft crash near Malmö-Bulltofta Airport (SE-ABA)

What happened

The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft departed from Malmö-Bulltofta Airport. While executing the initial climb phase of flight, all four engines on the airframe failed simultaneously. The pilot attempted to execute an emergency landing procedure but subsequently lost control of the machine. The aircraft entered a stall and impacted the ground in a residential zone situated close to the airport perimeter. The impact resulted in one passenger death and left four other individuals with minor injuries, while the remaining eight occupants sustained no harm. The airframe, which was identified by the name 'Lappland', suffered damage that rendered it beyond repair.

Findings

Investigations into the event determined that the failure of all engines was caused by a specific control error during the climb. The captain incorrectly manipulated the throttle levers rather than selecting the propeller pitch handles while the engine mixture was set to weak. This action caused the fuel-air mixture to become too lean for combustion, leading to the simultaneous shutdown of all four powerplants.
