Accident Details
A four-engine aircraft, engaged in a locust spraying operation in Senegal under contract with the U.S. Agency for International Development, experienced difficulties shortly after departure from Dakar-Yoff Airport. The aircraft was carrying one passenger, three crew members, and a load of pesticides.
During the initial climb, white smoke was observed emanating from engine number three. Simultaneously, the fire alarm for engine number four activated. In response, the crew shut down engine number four and feathered its propeller. Shortly thereafter, the aircraft lost altitude and crashed, erupting into flames.
Casualties and Injuries
The passenger on board sustained serious injuries, while all three crew members were killed in the accident.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined the probable cause to be engine problems for unknown reasons.
