What happened

On a scheduled cargo mission traveling from Yopal to Mitú, the aircraft was performing a descent from a cruising altitude of 25,000 feet. The crew had received clearance to descend to 7,000 feet to prepare for an approach to runway 01 at Mitú-Fabio Alberto León Bentley Airport. During this descent, while the aircraft was at approximately 23,300 feet, it began an uncontrolled descent.

The plane crashed in a secluded, mountainous area situated roughly 135 km northwest of the Mitú Airport. Following a search, the wreckage was located on December 28 at coordinates N 002° 19' 15'' W 070° 47' 13''. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were three fatalities among the crew members on board.
