Incident Overview
An aircraft operating a flight from Barranquilla-Ernesto Cortissoz Airport experienced a critical failure shortly after departure. Two minutes into the climb, the crew informed air traffic control of the failure of engine number 4 and received clearance to return for an emergency landing.
Sequence of Events
After completing a turn to align with the airport, the captain continued the approach. During the final phase, the aircraft banked sharply to the right and impacted the ground a few hundred meters short of runway 04. The impact resulted in three occupants being killed and five others sustaining injuries.
Probable Cause
According to the official investigation, the probable cause was a loss of control on final approach following the failure of both right engines, numbers 3 and 4, for unknown reasons.
