What happened
During a flight originating from Belém, the flight crew initiated their descent toward Senador José Porkiio-Wilma Rebelo Airport amidst marginal weather conditions. As the aircraft approached the destination, the crew identified an increase in the turbine temperature of the left engine. In response to this technical issue, the captain decreased power to both engines and decided to perform an emergency landing.
During this maneuver, the aircraft entered a stall and impacted an open field situated approximately 4 km before reaching the runway. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. The accident resulted in nine fatalities, including the captain and one passenger. Of the remaining eight occupants, three sustained serious injuries.
Findings
- The crew observed an elevation in the left engine turbine temperature during the approach phase.
