What happened

During an approach to Yuchin Airport, the flight crew encountered challenging meteorological conditions, with visibility measuring only 2,800 metres. As the Embraer 190 progressed on short final, the aircraft descended below the required altitude without the crew successfully identifying the runway visually.

The aircraft struck the ground approximately 1,110 metres before reaching runway 30. Following the initial impact, the plane slid across the terrain and came to a halt 690 metres from the runway threshold. A significant post-crash fire broke out, leading to the total destruction of the airframe. The accident resulted in 44 fatalities among the passengers.

This event marks the first fatal accident recorded at Yuchin Airport since the facility began operations in 2009, as well as the first fatal hull loss involving this specific aircraft model.
