What happened
During an arrival at Bassein Airport, an aircraft experienced a runway excursion following touchdown. Upon contacting the runway surface, the plane was unable to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. As the vessel continued past the end of the paved area, the force of the excursion caused the nose gear to collapse. The aircraft eventually came to a halt after the structural failure.
Despite the severity of the impact and the subsequent damage to the airframe, there were no casualties among those on board. All 40 occupants successfully evacuated the scene without sustaining any injuries. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
Investigations into the incident identified that the flying crew utilized an incorrect approach configuration. This error resulted in the aircraft touching down too far down the runway, which significantly diminished the remaining distance available for the braking maneuver.
