What happened
On a night flight originating from Naples-Capodichino Airport, an aircraft was en route to Brindisi with a scheduled stop at Bari-Palese Macchie Airport. During the descent phase of the flight, the aircraft encountered conditions characterized by low visibility. While operating under these nighttime constraints, the plane struck the ground in an open field situated approximately 47 km southwest of the runway 07 threshold in Poggiorsini.
The force of the impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate upon hitting the terrain. There were no survivors of the accident, as all 27 occupants were killed during the crash.
Findings
Official investigations into the accident concluded that the primary factor was a controlled flight into terrain.
