What happened
During a routine local training mission operating out of Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont Airport, an aircraft experienced a loss of braking capability or insufficient stopping distance immediately following landing. Upon touching down on the runway, the crew encountered mechanical or operational difficulties that prevented the plane from coming to a halt within the available pavement. As a result, the aircraft exited the runway and entered Guanabara Bay.
Despite the impact with the water, all seven occupants were successfully pulled from the wreckage by rescuers. The aircraft sustained damage so extensive that it was declared a total loss.
Findings
Initial reports indicate that the primary factor in the accident was the inability to stop the aircraft within the runway limits following touchdown.
