What happened
A cargo flight operating from Mwanza Airport toward Nairobi experienced a catastrophic failure during its flight path. At approximately 19:26 local time, the aircraft was cruising at flight level 169 when it began an uncontrolled descent. During the descent, the aircraft reached a high velocity, passing through flight level 146 at a speed of 430 knots.
The descent concluded when the aircraft struck an open field in the vicinity of Kogatende. The impact was severe enough to cause the aircraft to disintegrate upon hitting the ground. Search teams located the wreckage the morning after the incident. There were three fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft, with no survivors reported.
Findings
Data indicates that the aircraft was in a state of uncontrolled descent prior to impacting the ground, characterized by a significant increase in airspeed during the loss of altitude.
