What happened
During a routine flight originating from Buenos Aires, the crew began their descent toward Concordia-Comodoro Pierrestegui Airport. The approach was being conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) amidst favorable weather conditions. As the aircraft neared its destination, the left wing made contact with a tree situated approximately 4 km before reaching runway 21.
Following this impact, the aircraft entered a stall and collided with the ground. The force of the impact caused the undercarriage to separate from the airframe, after which the plane slid for several dozen meters across the terrain before coming to a halt. While all 60 occupants were successfully evacuated from the wreckage, the incident resulted in 10 injuries.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that although meteorological conditions were clear and suitable for VFR operations, the pilot-in-command descended below the minimum descent altitude (MDA). This failure to maintain the required altitude led directly to the collision with obstacles during the final approach phase.
