What happened
Following a heavy landing at San Luis Airport at 20:46 local time, the crew requested a ground inspection of the landing gear. Although no issues were identified during this check, the aircraft attempted a subsequent departure at 21:10 local time. During the takeoff roll, the aircraft encountered a critical mechanical failure just before reaching V1 speed, when the fourth tire burst and the third tire lost pressure.
In response to the failure, the captain attempted to abort the takeoff by applying emergency braking. However, the aircraft could not stop before the end of the runway. The aircraft type overran the paved surface, resulting in the loss of its undercarriage. The movement continued for 125 meters beyond the initial overrun point, at which stage the vehicle caught fire. Despite the intensity of the post-crash fire, which destroyed the aircraft, all 113 occupants managed to evacuate without any reported fatalities or injuries.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was the bursting of tire number 4 and the loss of pressure in tire number 3 during the takeoff roll.
