What happened
During an arrival from Yangon, the crew attempted an approach to Sittwe Airport amidst unfavorable weather. Upon touchdown on runway 11, the aircraft experienced a heavy landing that resulted in the collapse of the right main landing gear. This structural failure caused the right wing to impact the ground, leading to significant damage as the wing was partially sheared away. Following the impact, the aircraft lost directional control and veered toward the left side of the runway, eventually coming to a stop against a perimeter fence.
There were three people on board, including the captain, all of whom sustained slight injuries. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
Investigation into the incident noted that several critical navigational aids were non-functional at the time of the accident. Specifically, the runway threshold lights, edge lights, and the Visual Approach Slope Indicator System (VASIS) were all unserviceable.
