What happened
On 16 May 2013, a Myanma Airways MA-60, registration XY-AIQ, was performing a multi-leg flight sequence starting from Yangon International Airport. After stops at Monghsat and Heho, the aircraft departed Heho at 11:10 local time carrying 51 passengers and 4 crew members. During this leg, the first officer was designated as the pilot flying.
While approaching Monghsat Airport, the crew requested and received descent clearance to 8,000 feet. The weather conditions were reported as fine with visibility between 4 and 5 miles. As the aircraft approached runway 12, the airspeed was approximately 120 knots. At 11:47:59 local time, the aircraft made its initial touchdown on runway 12 with an indicated airspeed of 114 knots.
During the landing roll, the aircraft failed to stop within the runway limits and overran past runway 30. The aircraft subsequently struck a tree stump while traveling at 40 knots and crossed into a water drainage ditch located 110 meters from the end of the runway. The impact caused the aircraft to veer 80 degrees to the left before coming to a halt. The accident resulted in two injuries, with one passenger sustaining serious back pain and another suffering a minor shoulder injury. All 53 occupants survived the event.
Findings
The aircraft sustained substantial damage, including a broken nose landing gear strut, a broken left main landing gear, damage to the left engine propeller blades, a broken left wing tip, and dents to the lower fuselage frame.
