Incident Overview
A maritime patrol aircraft was conducting a flight from Natuna Ranai to Tanjung Pinang when the crew approached a Singapore warship. During this approach, an engine failed, and the aircraft was unable to maintain a safe altitude. The pilot attempted to ditch the aircraft, but it crashed into the sea off Mapur Island.
Casualties and Rescue
The accident resulted in the deaths of two passengers and the captain. Eleven other occupants were rescued from the crash site.

The official investigation determined that the probable cause of the accident was an engine failure for unknown reasons.
