What happened
Shortly after departing from Karaganda Airport, the flight crew notified air traffic control of a failure in the left engine. This occurred approximately six minutes into the climb phase. Following this notification, the pilot received authorization to return to the airfield.
The pilot in command executed a circuit pattern and initiated a descent toward the runway. During the final approach, while performing a left-hand turn at an altitude of roughly 60 meters, the aircraft experienced a stall. The subsequent impact with the ground resulted in a large explosion in a field situated just before the runway threshold. The crash led to the deaths of all 25 occupants.
Findings
Official investigations could not pinpoint the specific reason for the malfunction within the left engine. However, evidence indicated that the crew had experienced technical issues with this particular engine only one day before the accident. Crucially, these previous mechanical problems were not reported to ground maintenance personnel.
