What happened
On an aircraft flight from General Manuel Piar Airport in Puerto Ordaz to Callao Aerodrome, a Beechcraft BE5SB (registration YV3162) experienced an accident during its landing phase on runway 08/26. While the aircraft was decelerating on the runway, the nose landing gear struck a dog that had entered the movement area.
The impact caused substantial damage to the aircraft, including fractures to the landing gear and torsion of the propeller blades on both engines. Despite the significant structural damage to the airframe, the pilot and the passenger were uninjured during the event.
The investigation
Investigators from the JIAAC examined the scene at General Manuel Piar Airport and reviewed photographic evidence of the wreckage. The inspection revealed broken landing gear components and damage to the interior of the nose gear well. The investigation also reviewed the pilot's credentials, noting a valid commercial pilot license, instrument rating, and sufficient flight experience.
Findings
The investigation established that the primary causal factor was a wildlife incursion into the movement area during the landing roll. This event was made possible by the lack of perimeter fencing at the airfield. Because the airport operates in an uncontrolled environment without adequate physical barriers, it was impossible to ensure the runway remained free of obstacles.
